Yu Yong Met Rio Tinto Chief Commerce Officer Bold Baatar

January 16, HBIS Group Chairman Yu Yong met visiting Rio Tinto Group Chief Business Officer Bold Baatar in HBIS R&D Center and discussed to strengthen supply chain coordination, carbon reduction and to lead the green development of industries. HBIS Group Vice President Li Yiren, Rio Tinto China CEO Xu Feng, Rio Tinto China Vice President and CBO Chen Sheng were also in the meeting.

Yu Yong said, Rio Tinto is one of the most important partners for HBIS, both parties has made concrete fruits in supply chain area during many years’ cooperation and established sound cooperated relationship during this process. HBIS is the gather of advanced concepts of steel industry in technology, craft, low carbon areas in China and even global for decades, close to the development trend of further steel industry evolution, has established “four major new plants”, to push forward the transition of “steel forward to material, manufacture forward to service” , to let the steel making process be more clean and more green at the same time. Reduction carbon footprint has become the mainstream focus of global, HBIS adheres low carbon development and Rio Tinto accelerates to push forward carbon reduction, the collaborated carbon reduction in supply chain are the common goal and pursuit for both parties. HBIS and Rio Tinto may together to take the mission of reduction in carbon footprint when we keep the traditional business cooperation. We may further to deep the upstream and downstream collaboration, and take common actions in craft evolution, R&D and other areas, to let more green and more low carbon steel to create a more sustainable beautiful future for mankind.

Baatar said HBIS was a long term partner for Rio Tinto and both sides have good cooperation in iron ore trade and South Africa cooper project. HBIS projects, including “four major new plants”, HBIS Serbia, world’s first 1.2 million-ton hydrogen steel making pilot plant, are valuable cases for Rio Tinto to study in global international and green & low carbon development. Rio Tinto is developing recycled materials, high quality iron ore projects, and strengthen technology collaboration with downstream industries, that may around reduce carbon 50% directly and indirectly by the year of 2030, to give strong support to new low carbon development goals and new energy transition of the world. HBIS, a leading steel manufacturer in green and low carbon development, share the same vision with Rio Tinto, and Rio Tinto are willing to strengthen strategic cooperation in material trading, low carbon R&D in the full lifespan of projects to make our effort in global sustainable development.
